A Legacy of Service – Honoring Assistant Fire Chief Kelvin Schuman

While this announcement is overdue, the impact of a career like this cannot be confined to a date.

Please join us in formally recognizing the retirement of Assistant Fire Chief Kelvin Schuman, who dedicated 48 years of service to Benton County Fire District 2, beginning in 1977 and concluding in 2025.

Chief Schuman’s fire service career began after starting as a dispatcher at City Hall, encouraged by then-Sergeant Roger Bates. What followed was nearly five decades of unwavering commitment, leadership, and mentorship. Beyond his service with BCFD #2, Chief Schuman also served at the Hanford Site in both patrol and fire roles, further extending his dedication to public safety.

Chief Schuman represents what it means to be part of the fire service family—having grown up around the department, with deep generational ties and lifelong relationships forged through service. Over the years, he mentored countless firefighters, officers, and staff, leaving a lasting imprint on this organization and the community we serve.

During his retirement recognition, Chief Schuman was presented with his ceremonial helmet, a commemorative axe, and a crystal service award honoring 48 years of dedication, service, and leadership. In his remarks, he reminded those still serving that safety always comes first—a message that reflects his steady leadership throughout his career.

Thank you, Assistant Fire Chief Schuman, for your time, your sacrifice, and your legacy. Your impact will be felt for generations to come.
