🔔 Smoke Detector Tips

To protect yourself and your family, remember the following:

  • Install smoke alarms in every sleeping room, outside each separate sleeping area, and on every level of your home.
  • Test smoke alarms at least once a month using the test button.
  • Replace the batteries twice a year, unless you have 10-year sealed battery alarms.
  • Replace smoke alarms every 10 years, or sooner if they are not functioning properly.
  • Never disable a smoke alarm—even during cooking. Use an exhaust fan or open a window instead.
  • Create and practice a home fire escape plan with all members of your household.

📊 Smoke Detector Facts

  • 3 out of 5 home fire deaths occur in homes with no smoke alarms or non-working smoke alarms.
