Benton County Fire Protection District #2 is currently seeking dedicated Volunteer Firefighters to join our team and help protect the City of Benton City and surrounding rural areas in southeastern Washington State.

What to Expect
As a Volunteer Firefighter, you will receive all necessary training to safely and effectively respond to a wide variety of emergency incidents, including:
- Wildland and structure fires.
- Vehicle fires and motor vehicle accidents.
- Medical emergencies.
- Natural disasters.
- Public safety and special operations support.
Initial training covers essential topics such as fire suppression, emergency vehicle operation, personal protective equipment use, structure entry, and safety procedures on-scene. All accepted members begin as probationary firefighters and receive comprehensive, District-funded training at no cost.
Ongoing training continues every Wednesday night at the fire station and includes opportunities for advanced certifications, live burns, and mutual aid drills.
Training & Development
As part of your journey with Benton County Fire District #2, you will receive hands-on training, classroom instruction, and the opportunity to earn industry-recognized certifications—all provided at no cost to you. Training includes:
- 144-hour Structural Firefighting Academy.
- 36-hour Wildland Firefighting Course (NWCG FF2).
- 140-hour Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-Basic) Course.
- Weekly in-house drills and scenario-based training.
- Regional and state-wide training opportunities with travel, lodging, and meals covered.
- Access to IFSAC-accredited certification opportunities.
- Ongoing mentorship from experienced officers and team members.
This training is designed to build your skills, confidence, and readiness—whether you're here to serve your community or pursue a long-term career in the fire service.
Requirements to Apply
To qualify for the Volunteer Firefighter Program, applicants must:
- Live within Benton County Fire District #2 boundaries.
- Be 18 years of age or older.
- Possess a high school diploma or GED.
- Hold a valid driver’s license.
- Provide reliable transportation.
- Successfully complete:
- Interview process
- Background and driving record check
- Physical agility test
- Demonstrate a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn.
Ongoing Commitment
Volunteer Firefighters are expected to:
- Attend at least 60% of training meetings.
- Respond to at least 25% of emergency incidents.
- Complete a one-year evaluated probationary period.
Volunteer Benefits
